Live in Bahrain: Placido Domingo

Opera legend Placido Domingo is set to make his Bahrain debut later this month (November 29, 2012). His performance, alongside sopranos Angel Blue, Micaela Oesta, and special guest Ghada Shbeir concludes the month of Theatre within the Manama: Capital of Arab Culture program for 2012.  The concert is to be held outdoors at the Ministry of Culture, with the new National Theatre serving as a backdrop.

Known for the command and versatility of his voice, Domingo cemented his status as one of the most celebrated artists of our time with a repertoire that boasts over 140 stage roles, extensive recordings, and countless awards and honors that include 12 Grammy Awards.  During his career, Domingo has tackled some of the opera world’s most demanding roles: Otello, Siegmund, Rigoletto, and Simon Boccanegra.

With fellow tenors Luciano Pavarotti and Jose Carreras, Domingo formed part of the Three Tenors in 1990, performing at the Baths of Caracella in Rome to sing before the World Cup final, sparking a trend that saw the trio gain international commercial success through the early 2000’s.

From tenor to baritone, Domingo displays a rare kind of mastery over his voice and has forged an astonishingly long and successful career through a combination of talent and tenacity.

At 71 years old, he shows no signs of slowing down, often saying that, “if [he] rests, [he] rusts.” In addition to singing and conducting, Domingo currently serves as General Director of the Los Angeles Opera.

Tickets will be sold at the Virgin Megastore in Bahrain’s City Center and online at (virginmegastore.me)
